Sonja Top

Sankt Goar, Germany

Sonja works exclusively with porcelain. She creates her pieces on the potter’s wheel or shapes them by hand. Using colored porcelain engobes, she applies free, intuitive brushstrokes and dynamic splashes of color to give each piece an abstract vitality.

In some of her experimental works, she incorporates fragments of local slate directly into the vessels, expanding her ceramic vocabulary with a raw, earth-bound element. She fires her pieces in an electric kiln.
