Kypsela by Ricardo Campos
Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain
Ricardo and Rosa are two ceramic artists who have been working together for 35 years. Their work focuses on carrying on the ancient technique of traditional black and smoked ceramics, while also exploring more contemporary approaches, featuring simple lines in which decoration plays a very important role.
The pieces are made from red clay on a potter’s wheel or from slabs, polished, scraped, coated with terra sigillata, decorated with reserve-glaze motifs, and fired in a gas kiln at 900 °C, where carbonization turns them black.
