“Mujeres” is Argillà’s tribute to the important artistic career of Vilma Villaverde. In more than 50 years of intense artistic career, marked by important and significant international achievements, the Artist has chosen figuration as his favorite theme and, specifically, the female figure as his iconic subject. Women who surprise us with their gaze and attitudes at times even irreverent, ironic, scrutinizing us mockingly, with that “surrealist” vein that recalls the poetics of the great Argentine master Leo Tavella, his mentor and point of reference for so many generations of South American artists. Vilma’s installations often use industrial ceramics, sanitary ware, applied in a continuum with sculpture, creating those visual short-circuits, stories and situations, which have characterized her work especially since the 1980s.

Vilma is not only an artist, she is a great popularizer: she is credited with important volumes devoted to the history of Argentine ceramics, the first monograph by Leo Tavella, and other fundamental reference texts on contemporary ceramic sculpture.
